Roundworms (Nematodes)

The type of symptoms depends on the nematodes causing the infection and where the animals are located in the human body. If the parasites remain in the intestines, this causes, among other things, unclear intestinal symptoms with abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (diarrhea) and weight loss. Pinworm infestation: symptoms

Infection with these roundworms usually causes the anus (anus) to itch at night as the females lay their eggs in this area. Whipworm Infestation: Symptoms

If the worm infestation is very severe, possible symptoms include:

stomach pain

indigestion

weightloss

Bloody diarrhea (diarrhea)

Additionally, roundworms limit nutrient absorption in the intestines, which can lead to undersupply and stunted growth (in children). Other possible symptoms are:

itchy skin,

bleeding under fingernails,

conjunctivitis,

Headache,

Insomnia,

dysphagia,

dry cough,

occasional bleeding from the skin and mucous membranes (petechiae) as well as

painful movement disorders of the eye muscles and even chronic rheumatic conditions. Hookworm Infestation: Symptoms

Itching and redness of the skin develops where the larvae of these roundworms have penetrated the skin. Heartworm infestation: symptoms

The symptoms caused by these nematodes depend on the type of parasite and the disease it causes (such as loa-loa filariasis, onchocerciasis, etc.).

Würmer Im Garnelenbecken - Identifikation Und Hilfe

I've read a lot, but I'm still not really sure. Maybe someone can help me identify the creatures more precisely so I can see how I can deal with them. As I only have in vitro plants in the tank, the worms could only have been introduced by a ball of moss in my opinion.

White Nematodes In The Aquarium

Hi...I have just discovered white nematodes on the glass of our AQ (112 l) with Sternotherus carinatus...I have already searched a bit - they don't really look like planarians, unless they are also very long can do... are up to 2cm long on the disk and look more like a mini earthworm... by which I mean they have pointed ends and can contract and also stretch very long. :

Is it enough if I remove them from the glass once in a while or does something more have to happen...

The water is mainly pond water and is filtered through an Eheim filter designed for 600 l.

Worms eat anything they can find in the aquarium, which initially makes them appear to be ideal bottom cleaners. Alongside the fairly visible worms that are considered non-parasitic, there are of course external and internal parasitic worms that will harm the fish. A rule applies, to calm the nerves of the amateur; most worms seen on the outside of fish are generally not internal parasites and are not considered harmful to fish.

Detritus Worms In Aquarium – Are These Harmful To Fish (Complete Guide)

Note: Because they have sleek bodies, these detritus worms easily penetrate the tiny spaces between gravel stones, driftwood, and rocks and rarely tell tank owners of their existence until their numbers increase. The more fish there are in the tank, the more trash builds up, which constantly changes the water conditions and sets the stage for these trash worms. Praziquantel

[4]

Medical uses[edit]

Praziquantel is used to treat illnesses caused by infection with several types of internal/gastrointestinal and external parasites, including:

Side effects[edit]

The majority of side effects develop due to the release of parasite contents as they are killed and the resulting host immune response. Sensitivity reactions: hives, rash, pruritus and eosinophilia in white blood cell count

Other localizations/body as a whole: lower back pain, myalgia, arthralgia, fever, sweating, various cardiac arrhythmias and hypotension

Pregnancy[edit]

The WHO states that praziquantel is safe during pregnancy. [20][21]

Mechanism of action[edit]

The exact mode of action of the drug is currently unclear, but experimental evidence indicates that praziquantel increases the permeability of schistosome cell membranes to calcium ions. [22] This effect may have therapeutic relevance since the schistosome, like Taenia and Echinococcus (other praziquantel-sensitive parasites), is unable to synthesize purines, such as adenosine, de novo. "[23]

Praziquantel is administered as a racemate, but only the (R) enantiomer is biologically active; the enantiomers can be separated using an amine resolution obtained from praziquantel.
