Floor Barre: General Level

An ancestor of Pilates, Floor-Barre is an ideal way to prepare and maintain the body by strengthening, lengthening and toning it, while increasing its flexibility. This allows you to really focus on working different parts of the body and building core strength, without having to worry about standing or balancing yourself. Floor work is great for improving posture and preparing body alignment for ballet and other movement classes. The course aims to show students how to become aware of and unlearn patterns of overuse that manifest as tension, muscle mass, and misalignment that limit freedom of movement. Some yoga basics can be included which is very beneficial for the updated floor barre exercises nowadays. The course will cover:

Body alignment

Tension release

Clarity of arm and leg positions

Strengthening muscles and joints

Toning of abs, hips and legs

Expansion of the individual repertoire and advice on its suitability. At the end of this course, you should be able to...

Recognize increased strength and flexibility

Demonstrate better kernel stability

Show improved muscle tone without bulk

Use the body correctly, identify the correct technique and achieve greater ability. The class is perfect for dancers, actors, performers, athletes or those recovering from injury. Instruction will include hands-on classroom work as well as supportive discussion, observation and feedback for individual and group awareness. Through a series of fixed exercises to work isolated parts of the body without tensing up; as you would when standing, allowing for a safe and highly effective workout. While the majority of the work takes place on the floor, the course can end with a standing position. You will be able to experiment and use floor work in certain standing positions in certain classes. As part of the course content, your tutor may save your image for initial and ongoing assessment purposes. Tights, a leotard or clothing that does not restrict movement will allow your tutor to see your work better

clearly.
