Floor Barre Exercises
Why Floor Barre Is Great For Dancers?
In a floor barre class, you perform ballet movements sitting and lying on the floor. After Kniaseff, many others have developed their own floor barre methods to meet their needs and those of their students. Dancer's Body was created by Cathy Laymet, a French ballet teacher with a passion for ballet technique, placement and anatomy. She decided to expand the work of Boris Kniaseff, Zena Rommett and Laurence Fanon and create her own floor barre course structure including original exercises based on her research and experience. What I like about the floor barI started regularly taking Dancer's Body floor barre classes with Cathy Laymet in September 2019. What I like the most about floor barre is the simplicity and the repetitions of the movements which allow me to understand how my body moves, finding and strengthening the right muscles. It allows me to imprint the feeling in my body, my movement patterns are solid, I can focus on what needs improvement: deepening my participation, lengthening my spine, finding the pushing and pulling lines in my legs and my arms, breathing, etc. this. At floor barre, we focus seriously on alignment, which is essential to dancing well and acquiring what we call "strong technique". In summary, the floor bar is wonderful for:
improve participation (for a strong and stable supporting leg)
increase mobility and flexibility (for a greater range of motion)
build strength (for extensions, better partnership, more endurance)
improve coordination (for smooth and graceful movements)
refine proprioception (to quickly adjust your technique)
Who is the floor bar for? I would recommend the floor barre to any dancer looking to complement their daily ballet lessons. It would actually be best to include the floor barre in your pre-ballet class routine, as it prepares your body for what's to come and allows you to achieve a better range of motion. The floor barre is also one of the best choices for injured dancers who should avoid weight-bearing exercises, but can still move. In my case, thanks to the floor bar, I started to find the muscles I needed to properly rotate my legs. You might also find the cause and solution to your injuries with your floor barre practice.
