Can I Install An Inline Check Valve On A Condensate Drain Line Down Pipe?

I actually need to add a check valve to my condensate drip line / sewer drain connection because there has been a sewer backup recently (the 3 /4" was routed directly into a 2" black iron sewer pipe).
