I used mad by powernail a few times, they seemed to split tongues more than bostics. Try lowering the compressor, soaping up the staples, and trying to go a little slower. Maybe I need to hit harder with the rubber mallet and wax or soap the staples.

How To Remove Old Carpet And Flooring Staples

I ripped out all the carpeting and found all sorts of things, like this very old outlet that had just been carpeted at some point. The flooring under the carpet is indeed solid wood, and it is in good condition, but it is really just a 100 year old subfloor. It left behind at least 60 years of rotting strips of wood, rusting nails and grimy staples. Adhesive strips can be removed with a pry and some patience, but carpet staples are trickier. It's worth mentioning that I've heard this particular tool referred to as a "cross cut", "end cut", and "side cut" by various people. The end cutter looks the most correct to me, so I'll go with that one. Sometimes there's a ton of padding around the staple, so much that you can't even see which way it's facing. You don't want to cut it, just grab it. Some staples have to be coaxed with the pry bar first, and a few staples got so stuck I had to get a pair of vices to get them out. It's still not a quick process, but if you go for it, there's a nice kind of boredom. Keep sweeping as you go, the little carpet scraps and staples end up everywhere and if you don't stay on top you won't be able to see what you're doing.

Removing Subfloor Staples...Trying To Save Hardwood....Help!!!

The whole house is hardwood (1890s) - so is the kitchen...under rolled linoleum, subfloor, school tile and another subfloor. I surprised DH by taking the rolled linoleum in about two hours the other day...I took a step back and realized what was underneath. This plywood "subfloor" I assume you call it is STAPLED in all directions in about 3/4 inch increments...throughout the KITCHEN...which didn't have the looks too huge until i see all those ridiculous staples. Are we crazy trying to remove every single one of them... only to find the original hardwood floors too dented to use?
